Why Does Cotton Yarn Become Thicker With Smaller Index?

The higher the count of cotton cloth, the better. The cotton yarn is fine with high index, good raw materials and good equipment.

① Metric number. The length (m) of a fiber or yarn with a weight of 1 gram at a given moisture regain. The finer the fiber or yarn, the higher the metric count. The thickness of hemp fiber and wool yarn, wool type chemical fiber pure yarn, blended yarn, and silk yarn and ramie yarn are expressed in metric count. The metric number of plies is expressed by dividing the nominal number of single yarns that make up the plies by the number of strands.

② Number of imperial branches. The number of strands of 0.4536 kg yarn (768 meters per strand of cotton yarn) at a given moisture regain. The finer the yarn, the higher the imperial count. Due to the inconvenience of calculation, the number of countries using this representation is decreasing. The English number of strands is similar to the metric number.

In addition to the above two representations, Tex and Dan are also widely used internationally. Tex is short for Tex, also known as number, and is expressed by the weight (g) of a 1000m long fiber or yarn at a fixed moisture regain.
