Generally speaking, yarn can be classified according to raw materials, yarn thickness, spinning method, spinning system, yarn structure and yarn use.
According to yarn material:
1. Pure spinning is a kind of yarn spun from fiber materials, such as cotton yarn, wool yarn, hemp yarn and silk thread. This yarn is suitable for making pure textiles.
2. Blended yarn is a yarn made of two or more fibers, such as polyester/cotton blended yarn, wool/viscose blended yarn, etc. This yarn is used for fabrics that highlight the advantages of both fibers.
Divided by yarn thickness:
1. Coarse yarn: Coarse yarn refers to the yarn of 32 tex and above (British 18 counts and below). This yarn is suitable for thick fabrics, such as tweed and plain cloth.
2. Medium tex yarn: Medium tex yarn refers to 21~32 tex (19~28 British count) yarn. This kind of yarn is suitable for medium and thick fabrics, such as medium plain cloth, gabardine, khaki, etc.
3. Fine tex yarn: fine tex yarn refers to 11~20 tex (British count 29~54) yarn. This yarn is suitable for thin fabrics, such as muslin and poplin.
4. Ultra-fine yarn: Ultra-fine yarn refers to the yarn of 10t and below (British 58 and above). This yarn is suitable for high-grade fine fabrics, such as high-count shirts and worsted sweaters.
According to the spinning system:
1. Combed yarn, also known as combed yarn, refers to the yarn spun by combing process, including combed cotton yarn and combed wool yarn. The fibers in the yarn have high parallelism and straightness, even and smooth evenness, but high cost and high yarn count. Combed yarn is mainly used as raw materials for high-grade fabrics and knitwear, such as worsted, gabardine, tweed, cardigan, etc.
2. Core spun yarn, also known as combed wool yarn or combed cotton yarn, refers to the yarn that is combed according to the general spinning system without combing process. There are many woolen staple fibers, poor parallelism and straightness, loose structure, many hairiness, low yarn count and poor quality. This kind of yarn is mainly used as raw material for general fabrics and knitwear, such as wool fabrics, medium and high-grade cotton fabrics, etc.
3. Waste spinning refers to the yarn spun from textile waste (waste cotton) or mixed with low-grade raw materials. The yarn is poor in quality, soft, uneven in evenness, rich in impurities, and poor in color. It is generally only used for weaving low-grade fabrics such as coarse cotton blanket, thick flannelette and packing cloth.
