Expression Of Yarn Thickness

Yarn thickness can be expressed by fixed length and weight.

(1) Fixed length system

It refers to the weight of a certain length of yarn. The larger the value, the thicker the yarn.

Unit of measurement: Nt and Nden

Special number (Nt)

Tex, also known as yarn number, refers to the weight grams of 1000m long fiber or yarn at a fixed moisture regain, also known as yarn number. The special number can be written in the form of "18t or 18tex", which means that when the yarn is 1000 meters long, its weight is 18g

Calculation formula of cotton yarn:

583.1=English count * yarn count

Chemical fiber calculation formula:

590.5=British count * yarn count

Calculated yarn count in the laboratory=583.1/100mg weight

The denier number (Nden) refers to the weight of 9000m long fiber or yarn in grams when the moisture regain is determined. Also known as "size", the denier number can be expressed as: 24 denier, 24D, etc. The denier number is generally used to express the fineness of natural fiber silk or chemical fiber filament.

(2) Fixed weight system

It refers to the length of a certain weight of fiber or yarn. The higher the value, the finer the yarn. Unit of measurement: metric number (Nm) and English number (Ne).

Metric count (Nm) refers to the length of a gram of yarn (or fiber) in meters when the moisture regain is determined. Metric count can be expressed in the form of "20 metric count and 40 metric count", which means that a gram of yarn has a length of 20m or 40m.

English count (Ne) refers to the number of 840 yards (1 yard=0.9144 meters) of cotton yarn weighing 1 pound (454 grams). If one pound of yarn has 60 840 yards in length, the yarn fineness is 60 English counts, which can be recorded as 60S. English representation of strand: 60S/3.
